JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion) Book Club
JEDI Book Club includes eight monthly classes exploring race, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual identity, abilities, age, and national origin. Participants are responsible for reading six secular books (below), watching one film, and investigating how these factors currently impact our lives, church, and community. The workshop is set up to be experiential, interactive, and discussion-based. Each class is designed to

  • first focus on the issues of the text assigned for that class session (reflection on the text),
  • then focus on the connections of the text to our lives, church, and community (the text in our lives),
  • and finally, focus on how the equity issues of the text are addressed in the Bible (going beyond the text).

The class is based on The SEED Project on Inclusive Curriculum, originally designed by Peggy McIntosh and Emily Styles.
